I've been using an app call pdanet, it's awesome and doesn't need to root the device (i have samsung fascinate) I am not sure it will work on the htc G2X, I have emailed pdanet admins and haven't hear back. For non-rooted folks it is the way to go for sure. You can sync upto 8 devices on wifi. I, enjoy it, but don't need it. Just beware: on May 15, a $20 charge, extra, per month will be added to your bill.
